1. Our Aims
- To work with young people and their families to prevent them becoming Looked After
- To support young people in the Care system and their carers to ensure placement stability and avoid the need for young people to be placed in out-of-County placements, far from home.
The team is based at Thornbury House in Kidlington. We offer a County-wide service.
2. What do we Offer?
We offer a supportive service during the week and at weekends, when necessary.
We aim to work in collaboration with young people and families building on their strengths in order to find ways of managing difficulties and distress.
We work alongside Social Workers in the area teams and other professional colleagues and generally offer a "short term" intervention to families.
We work in a variety of ways because different families need different things. We can offer:
- Solution focused family work.
- Direct/intensive support to young people in crisis.
- Therapeutic interventions for CLA and their carers, based on Attachment theory.
- Family interventions in the aftermath of trauma, separation, loss etc.
- Home-based assessment and support to young parents and their babies.
- Outreach 1:1 work with young people based on positive activities.
- Holiday programmes for CLA and other vulnerable young people.
- Consultation to professional colleagues.
- A range of group work opportunities for parents, carers and young people.
In all our interventions we try to be flexible and creative in response to the needs of the young people and families.
3. How to Refer
All young people and families referred to Family and Placement Support service are "open" cases to a Social Worker.
We have a referral form which the Social Worker, in agreement with the young person and family, completes and sends to Family and Placement Support service.
Following a referral, we will arrange to meet with the family and their Social Worker to plan and agree how we can help.
